What RanchNVR does

These are the RanchNVR Capabilities — cloud video, sites, alerts, and security. We are gauging interest now and plan to open services up publicly in 2027.

Live and playback

Watch now, or jump to a recorded time.

Wall

Multi-camera live view

A live wall with saved layouts and camera groups. HLS is the default. A user can choose WebRTC, with HLS as fallback.

Timeline

Jump to a date and time

Open a camera, pick a day that has coverage, and center playback on that instant.

Gaps

Coverage you can trust

Recording gaps — camera down, connector offline — show on the timeline so a hole is not mistaken for a quiet scene.

Export

Snapshots and MP4

Grab a still, or queue an MP4 video of a time range (up to four hours).

Health

Recording status

See whether a camera is ingesting, how stale the last frame is, bitrate, and codec once the stream is up.

APP

Desktop, Tablet, Mobile

A web app when at your computer. A mobile app for when you're not.

Sites

Cameras can stay off the public internet.

Each site runs a RanchNVR connector. It makes a secure connection to the RanchNVR service over the internet. The cloud NVR talks to the connector to the cameras you configure for the service and that's it. The web and mobile apps talk to the RanchNVR service, never to the camera.

Connector

Outbound only

Enroll with a site token from the RanchNVR UI. Rotate or revoke it later. The connector does not keep an archive.

Discovery

ONVIF on that LAN

Scan the site network for cameras. Results stay tagged to that site. Discovered cameras are not added automatically.

Addresses

Overlapping LANs

Two sites can both use the same private IP. RanchNVR never treats a LAN address as a global camera id.

Alerts

Detection, plates, and notice when you want it.

Objects

Person, vehicle, bicycle, animal

Object alerts land on the alert list with a still. Video keeps recording whether or not anyone is watching.

Plates

ALPR search

When plate reading is enabled, RanchNVR stores plate text, a crop, camera, and time. Filter alerts by plate.

Clips

Save an event

Pin an alert and RanchNVR extracts a short clip so that video still plays after older hours leave retention.

Arming

Schedules for alerts only

Disarm a site or camera to pause alerts. Continuous recording does not stop. Pause alerts on a camera the same way.

Notify

Email, Webhooks, Notifications

Send what / where / when to an email address or webhook destination. The mobile app supports push notifications.

Manual

Mark a moment

Drop a manual marker on the timeline when a person on the wall sees something worth keeping.

Access and control

Invite people. Drive the camera when it allows it.

Accounts
Users with passwords and optional MFA for extra security. Roles are admin, operator, and viewer. Operators and viewers see only granted cameras.
PTZ and talk
Pan, tilt, zoom, and presets through the connector when the camera advertises them. Hold-to-talk uses the camera backchannel. IR and aux outputs when advertised.
Storage
Archive fill, estimated days remaining, and recording-gap reports. Retention evicts oldest complete hours after a watermark — video is the cloud archive, not a local appliance story.
Audit
Admin actions are logged. Connector tokens show a fingerprint, not the secret, after issue.
